Change of command reassures PNP's better service in the region

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (April 13, 2011) – New police regional director C/SUPT Benjardi Mantele yesterday vowed to continue the reforms in the ranks of Philippine National Police in Region XII started by outgoing regional director C/SUPT Gil Meneses.

Mantele assumed office as acting PNP regional director during the change of command ceremony at the Police Regional Office in Tambler Tuesday (April 12).

“Your warm welcome is a challenge for me to perform my duty as your new regional director or even more,” said Mantele, who is also concurrent district director of Central Police District.

Presiding officer and guest of honor Benjamin Belarmino, Deputy Chief PNP for Operations, commended Mantele’s performance in the district and urged him to do more for his first assignment in Mindanao.

On the other hand, Belarmino said: “While Meneses was your regional director here, I didn’t remember any instance of any problem (in his area of responsibility).”

The region’s police transformation program includes training and retraining of the men in uniform and “going back to the basics”.

“This will remind them the duties and responsibilities which they have been trained for,” Belarmino said.

“I also ask the cooperation of the communities for our police to do their duties successfully to continue the fight against carnapping, anti-drugs, and anti–organized crimes,” Belarmino said.

Meneses was awarded the Medalyon ng Pambihirang Paglilingkod by the PNP at the ceremony. (Russtum G. Pelima/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
