MALUNGON, Sarangani (April 5, 2014)- World Bank Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) country representative Edkarl Galing introduces to Mayor Reynaldo Constantino (foreground) the monitoring and evaluation tools for scaling up rural sanitation program at the Mayor’s Office Thursday, April 3. Sarangani is among the pilot provinces set to end open defecation practice by 2016. The challenge comes in the wake of global efforts to hit the 2015 Millennium Development Goal on sanitation to cut by half the proportion of people without universal access to improved hygiene. Quezon and Negros Oriental provinces are also testing areas of WSP 2016 zero open defecation. (Jake T. Narte/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)

Sarangani leaders work hard to achieve MDG targets
DAVAO CITY (September 24, 2013) - A two-day training-workshop for Sarangani leaders was held recently to further enhance the establishment of equitable and effective local health systems in the province. As his top priority, Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon stressed every Sarangan can access quality health services. The Provincial Leadership and Governance for the Poor is one helpful tool to help leaders achieve the targets in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), initiated by provincial health officer Dr. Arvin Alejandro with support from United Nations Population Fund and Zuellig Family Foundation. The Provincial Leadership and Governance for the Poor focuses on the need to have more interventions to achieve quality health services. This was what Sarangani officials realized during the training workshop. Board Members, department heads, barangay captains and other officials were taught on the bridging leadership which consists of ownership, co-ownership and co-creation. (Charito S.
