Two-classroom building breaks ground
MAASIM, Sarangani (July 18, 2012) – Mayor Arturo Lawa and Vice Mayor Uttoh Salem Cutan (both with spade) and Board Member Limuel Gacula and municipal officials break ground for a KALAHI-CIDSS two-classroom building at sitio Macnit, in barangay Nomoh Tuesday, July 17. Congressman Pacquiao opens Maitum ATM
MAITUM, Sarangani (July 17, 2012) - Congressman Manny Pacquiao withdraws money after the inauguration of the newly-installed Automated Teller Machine in Maitum Municipal Hall Monday, July 16. He was the first to transact business with the ATM. Volunteers build temporary daycare school
MAITUM, Sarangani (July 17, 2012) - Kabalikat Civicom members in partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Maitum built a temporary daycare school building (background) for the 37 kids of sitio Mantolan of barangay Maguling during the weekend. The LGU Maitum provided the lumber while a tarpaulin which serves as its roof was provided by Kabalikat Civicom. The 37 kids used to have their class under a jackfruit tree which exposed them to the elements. Sitio Mantolan is 2 kilometers away from the barangay proper. Mayor files charges vs foreign seamen for pollution of Sarangani Bay
GLAN, Sarangani (July 16, 2012) – Mayor Victor James Yap Sr. (left) files charges Monday, July 16, before provincial prosecutor Felipe Vicente Velasco inside the Justice on Wheels mobile court against 11 officers and crew of foreign vessels TB Oceania 1 (tugboat) and Oceania 2 (barge) for dumping coal residue from the barge’s hold into Sarangani Bay last May. The respondents are Capt. Samsudin, Kyaw Htay, Shwe Thann, Keso Bin Tarjuki, Tu Kah Hua, Tar Var Linmyint, M. Fauzi Bin Apandi, Kumaedi, Russetia Wahit, M. Zaiful Hosen, and Lau Nai Sing who are all foreigners and are either Malaysian, Indonesian and Myanmar nationals. They were charged for violation of the Clean Water Act (pollution of water body), violation of the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Act of 1992, marine pollution under PD 979, and aquatic pollution under the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998. The school building will serve as temporary classrooms of the Indigenous People scholar-beneficiaries of the special tertiary extension service for IPs, an off-campus scholarship program of Governor Dominguez in partnership with Mindanao State University-Gensan being the service provider for the College of Education; DepEd Sarangani for the class venue; LGU Malungon and barangay Malandag for the administrative and logistic support. Since college classes are held Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the classrooms will also be used by elementary pupils on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
