GLAN, Sarangani (July 2, 2014) – Sarangani’s oldest town is set to celebrate its centennial anniversary 100 days from Tuesday (July 1) following Mayor Victor James Yap’s official declaration of the countdown to the October 8 celebration.

The unveiling of the 100 days countdown marker has gelled hundreds of town officials, employees and students into a fun-filled gathering capped with a mass dance of the town’s jingle.

The centennial celebration, according to Yap, will be a 15-day event to start on September 24 with series of activities lined-up like cultural presentations, trade fair, concerts and many more.

The mayor said every effort has been made in ensuring “a most memorable and enjoyable time as the town will be paying homage to the legacy of the service and achievements” of their founding fathers.

The celebration, Yap said, is pulling the townspeople “in a unique position as witnesses to this once in a lifetime affair,” thus he enjoined everyone to be united as they begin to face a “new era of sharing and caring of many but one people one culture.”

Glan was founded on October 8, 1914 by a group of 16 Christian pioneers from Naga, Carcar, Hinatilan and Alegria, Cebu led by Don Tranquillino Ruiz being the superintendent of Agricultural Colony No. 9.

The town was among the first agricultural colonies established in Mindanao following the 1935 Commonwealth Government Resettlement Program. (Beverly C. Paoyon/ SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
