ALABEL, Sarangani (May 14, 2014) - For the awareness of everyone, John Heitz (standing), owner of a resort near the on-going construction of the coal-fired power plant in Maasim, addresses the environmental impacts of the construction of the power plant Tuesday, May 13. In the past week, Heitz, along with Chris Dearne, dove at the construction site of the power plant's pier and took pictures of damages on corals and artificial reef allegedly caused by the construction. Heitz pointed these out to Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon and eventually called up a meeting which was attended by provincial government executives, municipal mayors, Sarangani Energy Corporation, Protected Area Management Board, Engineering Equipment Inc., Provincial Environment and Natural Resources office and the local media.
