ALABEL, Sarangani (May 30, 2014) – A 15-minute dazzling fireworks lit up the sky over the shores of Gumasa cove, hovering at thousands of revelers waiting for Kamikazee’s concert to begin.
This was how #sarbayfest2014 hit the climax of summer fun on (May 17) that culminates the biggest beach festival in the Philippines today.
It was awesome!
The partying crowd of thousands radiated mixed emotions of enjoyment, satisfaction, and surely a craving for more of SarBay.
Sarbay was launched in 2006 as a campaign for the conservation of Sarangani Bay and to create a niche for Sarangani in the tourism industry as it is being positioned a sports tourism adventure hub in southern Mindanao.
Then on, SarBay citizens grew bigger and bigger. This time, the estimate reached 120,000.
People from all walks of life either backpackers, in groups of friends or a band of families crammed the kilometers of fine white sands where the biggest beach party was happening.
Aside from partying, these people are lugging a feeling of just wanting to unleash and escape from the hustled urban life.
Beachgoers were unmindful of the sun, mingling with friends while enjoying sports like the triathlon and swim across the bay. These were the most grueling adventure sports among others like beach volley, soccer football and jetski competition.
Staying under native cottages in thatched roofs lined at the beachfront and gazing at the vista of the bay as the setting sun unfolds a grandiose sight of painted sky is just perfectly refreshing.
What is also fascinating is how artists encapsulated thru sand sculpture the idea of appreciating the bounty of the bay which is the ultimate intention of celebrating SarBay.
Hence, Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon said SarBay marked a celebration of the beauty of the bay and the generosity it brings as he urged for a concerted effort to continue preserving it. (Beverly C. Paoyon/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
