BHWs deployed to fight TB

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (August 22, 2014) - Gov. Steve Chiongbian Solon congratulates Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from the different municipalities of the province during the consultative meeting for trained informal laboratory workers on remote smearing station of tuberculosis (TB) Wednesday, August 20. Gov. Solon believed the need to train more informal workers at the barangay level to strengthen strategies to combat TB. The province has a low case detection rate (CDR) and low cure rate (CR) of TB with only 59 percent and 70 percent, respectively, for the 1st quarter of the year 2013. Hence, an executive order of the governor was issued reconstituting the Provincial TB Program Board (PTPB). Inset from right: Bong Yadao of the Provincial Health Office, Board Member Elmer de Peralta as chairman of the Sanggunian Committee on Health, and Gov. Solon turning over kits to the BHWs.
