GENERAL SANTOS CITY (August 18, 2014) - "Sarangani's disaster program has been successful because of the convergence program we have, the Sulong Sarangani convergence program,” tells Sarangani Gov. Steve Chiongbian Solon as guest of honor during the Disaster Consciousness Month culmination program held at Sun City Suites, Friday, August 15. Sarangani was declared by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) as Best Prepared Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in whole Region 12 under the 2014 Gawad Kalasag Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Humanitarian Assistance of NDRRMC, which qualified the province a national entry representing the region. The Sulong Kaligtasan pillar of Sulong Sarangani highlights the disaster preparedness and responses of the province thru Sarangani’s PDRRM Council and PDRRM Office. Gov. Solon also received a plaque of appreciation for the unparalleled commitment and dedication of the provincial government to humanitarian assistance and disaster responses as the province extended financial assistance after the super typhoon Yolanda hit Visayas in November 2013.
