ALABEL, Sarangani (October 24, 2012) – Sarangani students competed in a statistics quiz Tuesday (October 23) to highlight the annual celebration of the National Statistics Month.
Jelyn Apura, officer-in charge of the Provincial Planning and Development Office, said the competition was “one of the thrusts of the province to empower Sarangans particularly in capacitating all of you (students) for future endeavor”.
A total of 38 participating students from different schools represented by the seven municipalities of Sarangani joined in the second Sarangani Secondary Statistics Challenge at the Capitol gym.
First placer was Dahr Tur Silao, 4th year, of Kiamba National High School; second– Lyanca Rimulca, 3rd year, of Malungon National High School; and third – Marianne Wata, 3rd year, of Glan School of Arts and Trades.
The provincial government in coordination with the National Statistics Office (NSO), the National Statistical Coordination Board and the Department of Education hosted the event.
“I really appreciate the teachers and principals for supporting your students to be part of this activity,” Apura said. “From last year’s eight participants, now it was increased to 38.”
NSO formulated the questions for the quiz with Ruben Abaro as the quizmaster.
April Dream Toreno of Alabel National High School, the winner of last year’s competition, challenged the contestants to do their best for the competition. She said“determination, initiative and persistence” made her win during the first Sarangani Secondary Statistics Challenge.
The winning contestants received P5,000 for the first prize, P3,000 for the second prize and P2,000 for the third prize and medals plus trophies for the schools they were representing.
