Cotabato thanks Sarangani for rice donation

COTABATO CITY (July 1, 2011) – Mayor Japal Guiani Jr. thanked Sarangani Governor Migs Dominguez for bringing in Friday (July 1) 200 sacks of rice for flood victims in Cotabato City.

“Malaking tulong ito sa constituents ng Cotabato,” Guiani told Sarangani Board Elmer de Peralta, chair of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Health, Disaster and Related Services; and Board Member Virgilio Clark Tobias, Abdulracman Pangolima and Eleanor Saguiguit.

The four board members delivered the two truckloads of rice from the Sarangani Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

“We want to show that LGUs (local government units) in Mindanao are helping each other,” Board Member Saguiguit said.

The bags of rice were unloaded at the Cotabato City Hall lobby where other relief goods were stored, including bags of rice and bottled water from Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao.

“The assistance is support to the daily rice requirement of more or less 3,000 sacks of rice to feed some 32,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs),” said Latoja. “Per info from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, aside from food items, the IDPs also need non-food items such as mats and kitchen utensils.” (SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
