Region 12 personnel officers strengthen ties

By JENNY ROSE DE GUZMAN
GENERAL SANTOS CITY (October 13, 2012) – The 9th Regional Council of Personnel Officers (RCPO) Annual Conference ended Friday (October 12) after three days of bonding, sharing opportunities and promoting stronger relationship and camaraderie among human resources practitioners in Region XII.
The Sarangani-Gensan (SarGen) Council of Personnel Officers (CPO) hosted the conference at Family Country Hotel and Convention Center. Some 435 participants from Sultan Kudarat, Cotabato City, South Cotabato, North Cotabato, and SarGen chapters attended the conference.
The conference theme, “HR Practitioners: Cornerstone of Excellence”, envisions to “raise our knowledge and skills in the significance of our roles as human resource practitioners in shaping individuals in our organization,” said Sittiehawa Marohomsalic, CPO SarGen president.
“We have to rise into excellence by building high performing teams and in capacitating the least responsive,” she said.
RCPO president Johnny Balawag opened the plenary session on day one while City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio and Sarangani Governor Migs Dominguez welcomed the participants.
Governor Dominguez said personnel officers were not only tasked with the payroll, or deducting the debts of employees from different banks and cooperatives but the greatest essence in any organization is “maintaining the morale, the values, and the enthusiasm of each personnel”.
He added that“the worth of any country lies in the intellect and the soul, intellect is easy but the soul is the most important in creating identity and values in the organization.”
A personnel officer has a great responsibility at hand, according to the governor, and so one must ask “is the desire still there? Is the passion still there?”
He said if the answer is “sometimes”, “we must all reexamine ourselves and ask, what is our purpose in our organization?”
Atty. Jose Mariano Gonzales, city administrator, represented Mayor Custodio but he said on his personal view that employees of Gensan during flag ceremonies have been serious to internalize the pledge of a civil servant and not just reciting it.
He said conference participants should be “thinking or putting into reality (and) in practice what we are saying every Monday during the flag ceremony.”
Mayor Custodio, in her message read by Gonzales, said “a Filipino employee has leveled up in terms of knowledge that he has been acquiring from the cyberspace and in terms of how he deals with his life whether at home or at work.”
Addressing the issue to the personnel officers, the mayor asked: “Have you leveled up in terms of the services you can offer to your more learned, more expectant employees as well as employers?”
Dr. Allan Farnazo, Sarangani schools division superintendent, pointed out that HR practitioners are not just clerks but “the number one asset of an organization”and thus this they must stand as one.
The 10th RCPO Annual Conference will be hosted by CPO South Cotabato. For more news and updates, please visit the Province of Sarangani . (Jenny Rose de Guzman/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
