Rural doctor treats “blekis” patient

KIAMBA, Sarangani (July 11, 2013) – Dr. Ethelyn Valendez (right), municipal health officer, talks to a “blekis” patient during the Oplan Kutis Kilatis held at purok Falel, barangay Tamadang while Apelina Tagum (center), health service provider, acts as translator for the Tboli folk. “Blekis” is the Tboli word for their skin condition called “Tinea imbricata", a chronic superficial fungal infection that causes generalized and highly ornate circular to serpentine reddish patterns in the skin caused by the fungus Trichophyton concentricum. Oplan Kutis Kilatis is a joint program of the Local Government Unit of Kiamba and GMA Foundation Inc.
