ALABEL, Sarangani (October 25, 2013) – The provincial government formally opened the 1st Governor Steve and Vice Governor Jinkee Inter-Department/Agency Sports Fest Thursday (October 24) at the Provincial Gymnasium.
The sports fest is one of the highlights of the upcoming MunaTo Festival which will open on November 28. It includes athletics, basketball, bowling, badminton, chess, darts, kickball, lawn tennis, table tennis, and volleyball, to be participated in by all players and employees of the provincial government of Sarangani.
It was learned that one of the most exciting game events during the sports fest is volleyball wherein players are challenged to be blind-folded. Board Member Cornelio Martinez Jr., who is the tournament director, said this will be the first time that Sarangani will have such kind of game.
The sports fest commenced with a parade by employees within the Capitol Compound, followed by a one-hour Zumba Marathon at the provincial gym.
Vice Governor Jinkee Pacquiao said in her message that the event is a good venue to promote physical fitness among the civil servants.
“Sports teach us about failure, maturity, and selflessness. I encourage everyone to value sportsmanship and camaraderie more than winning,” she said.
Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon, for his part, said that sports take a big role in the province, saying that all local officials support its development.
“This is a good start in building up camaraderie and a preparation for the MunaTo festivity. It is better to have harmonious relationship not only within each department but also among all departments,” he said.
Solon also proposes to the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan the rehabilitation of sports facilities located at the Capitol Compound such as the Olympic-size swimming pool, the world-class track oval, and the Clubhouse.
He added that these facilities can be enhanced and be established as economic enterprise for sports. (Joy R. Sevilla/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
