GLAN, Sarangani (October 4, 2013) – Sarangani’s oldest town - Glan - unveiled Friday (October 4) its centennial logo a year before the town celebrates a hundred years of existence.
It is now the official logo aside from the municipal seal that the municipal government will be using in letterheads and promotional materials, said Mayor Victor James Yap Sr..
Glan native Eliseo Besana III, who designed the logo, explained it as a representation of the “first wave of 16 Cebuano settlers who came to Glan on October 8, 1914.”
It represents further, he said, their “zeal and perseverance” that “cradled the town’s progress as symbolized by the coconut shell”.
The logo is an appearance of a half-cut coconut shell where the statue of the pioneering batch of Christian settlers is given refuge to. Coconut has been the main crop of Glan which the townsfolk regarded as invaluable contribution of the early inhabitants of their town.
Municipal councilor Atty. Cyril Yap said the logo perfectly encapsulated the townsfolk hardships and gains through the years.
Municipal tourism officer Lodar Escobillo said the logo “will reflect our lifelong tradition, our culture, our life as Glanians” as it will serve “to remind every Glanian (people of Glan) of the values, hardwork, resiliency, ingenuity and passion of the colonos (first settlers) from generation to generation.”
In time with the unveiling is the opening salvo of the five-day festivity of the 99th founding anniversary of Glan which will culminate on October 8 with Lubi-Lubi streetdance competition as highlight. (Beverly C.Paoyon/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
