GUMASA, Glan (October 19, 2013) – The confederation of 21 public sector employees’ unions in SOCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato-Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani-General Santos City) commemorated its 13th founding anniversary here Friday (October 18).
Anchored towards the promotion of the workers’ “protection, rights and welfare,” Public Sector Employees’ Alliance of SOCSKSARGEN (PSEAS) president Anacleto “Bobby” Saya-ang said the celebration served to “showcase the beauty, talent and intelligence of the employees while fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship.”
Saya-ang also pointed out the commitment of the confederation to expand and strengthen its membership thru education and other workers’ union advocacies.
PSEAS also adheres to “democratic principles, transparency and vows to advance the protection and development of public sector and of the Filipino people.”
Philippine Independent Public Sector Employees’ Alliance (PIPSEA) president Felix Cabugias said, like PIPSEA, PSEAS has also been marketed for affiliation with the local unions in Germany, Singapore and United Kingdom.
PIPSEA, according to Cabugias, is already affiliated with United Kingdom’s labor organizations.
Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon also graced the event and encouraged the different unions to align their endeavors towards improving communities.
“I have witnessed unionism. I have witnessed how it can spur development. I witnessed how it can keep check corporations that are not doing well. I have seen how it can mold government. Pero nakita pod nako nga kung dili maayo ang pagkadala sa union, the union is also capable of taking down governments to counter development.”
The 2-day socio-cultural activity also staged sing and dance contests and pageant dubbed as Hiyas ng PSEAS 2013. (Beverly c. Paoyon/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
