DTI reports increasing business registrations in Sarangani

By JOY R. SEVILLA
ALABEL, Sarangani (October 1, 2013) – There is an increase in business name registrations of single proprietorship businesses in Sarangani since 2010.
This was bared by the provincial director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-Sarangani) during her appearance in the 12th Regular Session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Tuesday (October 1).
Engr. Nenita Barroso, DTI–Sarangani provincial director, who presented DTI’s programs and projects before the members of the SP, said that in the year 2010, a total of 319 businesses were registered with DTI; 458 in 2011; 471 in 2012; and, 374 businesses were registered as of September this year. The increase, she said, could be attributed to the improving economy of the province.
“Improving ang economy ng Sarangani. There are a lot of infrastructure developments like road rehabilitation. The increase in the number of business registration could also be attributed to the convergence of the local government and partner organizations,” Barroso said in an interview.
Barroso added that DTI is confident that the number of business registrants will surpass last year’s considering that the given figure was only as of September record.
“We are hoping na masu-surpass kasi marami rin namang nagri-register. Pinapaalalahanan talaga namin na kailangan mag-register kahit na yung maliliit lang na negosyo. Umiikot din naman ang DTI sa probinsiya at marami naman ang willing na magparehistro,” she explained.
Aside from the increase in business name registration, Barroso said there is also a growth in the business renewal of single proprietorship businesses. Compared with the figure two years ago, DTI recorded 34 business renewals in single proprietorship businesses in 2011, 45 in 2012, and 77 as of September 2013.
She said entrepreneurs must renew their business name with DTI every five years while business permit, which must be renewed with the municipality, is done annually.
“Pag hindi kasi na-renew yung business name with the DTI, pwedeng makuha ng iba yung pangalan ng business kaya importante na ma-renew para ma-maintain yung image ng business,” she said.
Barroso also disclosed that DTI fast tracks the processing of business registrations of the entrepreneurs and makes sure that Sarangani is business-friendly to investors.
“Dati mahirap mag-process, aabutin pa nga minsan ng isang taon sa dami ng dadaanan mo, pero ngayon, mabilis na,” she said, adding that an entrepreneur could get his needed documents within three days.
Meanwhile, Board Member Elmer de Peralta, who presided the 12th Regular SP Session, ensures full support of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to the endeavors of the DTI in the province to achieve its goal of fostering global competitiveness for entrepreneurs.
