GLAN, Sarangani (October 9, 2013) – A pot money of P1-million cash prize from Congressman Manny Pacquiao sweetened this year’s Lubi-lubi Festival street-dancing contest performed before thousands of locals and visitors.
And the winner is General Santos City.
The contingent from General Santos City Trade School won the grand prize of P500,000.
The prizes of P300,000; P200,000, and P100,000 went to the 1st runner-up (Glan School of Arts and Trades), 2nd runner-up (Green Valley College) and 3rd runner-up (Alabel National High School), respectively.
Glan staged Tuesday (October 8) its 14th Lubi-lubi Festival in time with the celebration of the town’s 99th foundation anniversary.
Anchored on the theme “Pioneering spirit… Building on People, Culture and Tradition,” the event this year, according to Mayor Victor James Yap Sr., served “as a dry run” in preparation for Glan’s centennial commemoration next year.
Thus, he said, “every effort is being made to ensure that it lives up to all the hype and expectations it has already elicited among culture enthusiasts and festival lovers far and wide.”
Yap mentioned a list of tourism and infrastructure projects are already lined up to be implemented starting this year to prepare for the bigger celebration in 2014.
Some of these are the 50-hectare site they enrolled with the Department of Tourism-Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority's tourism economic zone flagship project, malls and a 2-kilometer stretch zip line, among others.
Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon supported Yap’s plans saying dignitaries in the national government have seen Glan’s potential to be the next biggest draw in the region.
This year, the town already opened the Lubi-lubi Streetdance competition to outside contingents and made cash prizes attractive for more participants. (Beverly C.Paoyon/SARANGANI INFORMATION OFFICE)
